This custom wine cellar is the centerpiece of a full lower level renovation, and was designed to complement the historical charm of the home. The traditional-style cellar showcases unique, handcrafted details that reflect the homeowner’s aesthetic.
The custom shelving units were meticulously designed to fit into the brick flooring, which was sourced from a 19th-century Chicago Street. To ensure a flawless fit, we intricately carved out the brick, installed the shelving, and then carefully re-laid and regrouted the flooring, achieving a seamless look. Adding to the cellar’s character, we incorporated family heirloom-stained glass doors, creating a stunning and distinctive entrance.
Inside, the cellar offers wine cellar racks that are cork- and label-facing for optimal organization, along with diamond cubes for bulk storage. A continuous display row throughout the space allows the homeowners to showcase their finest bottles. With the abundance of brick, we engineered a sophisticated wine cellar cooling system and added insulation behind the walls and flooring to maintain the perfect temperature. To enhance both functionality and ambiance, the wine racking was custom fit during the fabrication process with LED lighting to illuminate the display row and highlight the top of the racks, while the homeowners selected ambient lighting to match their home’s aesthetic. The result is a timeless, traditional wine cellar that perfectly balances history, craftsmanship, and modern innovation and seamlessly integrates with an adjacent Warm Timber sauna.
